Bring home original design pieces by some of the world’s most renowned contemporary creators. Held on Design Exchange's historic trading floor, the DXDA is a celebration of the city’s design and creative community. All proceeds benefit DX's education programs, curatorial initiatives and the preservation of the permanent collection.
We are donating one of the 6 foot sections of our Another Time, Another Airport bench from the Intergalactic Travel Authority; the cafe and not-for-profit creative writing and art centre has closed after 4 years and the creative writing portion will continue to operate as Story Planet out of participating Toronto schools. Another Time, Another Airport is a series of benches made with the future in mind, repurposing elements and using what material is available. The main surface of the 6 foot bench is made out of reclaimed beech wood from a defunct furniture manufacturer in Toronto. The frames of the benches are made out of red oak reworked from the former trim of 1165 Bloor. These wooden elements are affixed to each other with repurposed piston rods salvaged from a former engine repair shop on Ossington and allow for change of angle within the bench.
